20 Hong Kong Cents (Queen Victoria, Issued 1883)

This twenty-cent piece is part of the early colonial silver coinage of Hong Kong issued under Queen Victoria, coins that circulated both in the colony and across the trading ports of the region. Struck in silver, it is a small, delicately detailed coin with a toothed border and a reeded edge, and the mint mark of the Heaton mint appears below the portrait. It is now valued mainly as a historic collectable.

On the obverse, the coin carries the crowned, draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, encircled by the legend “VICTORIA QUEEN”, with a small “H” mint mark beneath the truncation and a beaded inner border.

On the reverse, the denomination is given in English and Chinese: “HONG KONG” arcs above and “TWENTY CENTS” runs along the foot, while the central Chinese characters read “Hong Kong twenty cents” within a ring of beads, with the date “1883” to the right.
