1000 Indonesian Rupiah (Heroes 2016)

£0.020100

1 IDR = £0.000020

The 1000 Indonesian Rupiah Heroes Series banknote, first issued in 2016 by Bank Indonesia, forms part of a modern family celebrating national figures, culture, and heritage. This denomination is among the most recognisable of the series and remains widely encountered, though many notes are now presented for exchange outside Indonesia due to wear, withdrawal from circulation, or changes in series.

The reverse of the note features a detailed cultural scene rendered in soft pastel tones. At its centre is a traditionally dressed Indonesian dancer wearing an ornate headdress, shown mid-performance with expressive posture and flowing costume details. Behind the figure, a stylised landscape includes Banda Neira and surrounding volcanic scenery, subtly referencing Indonesia’s geographic diversity. Decorative floral motifs, fine line patterns, and microdot security elements are integrated throughout the background, with the denomination “SERIBU RUPIAH” clearly printed alongside serial numbering and the Bank Indonesia name.

The obverse displays a finely engraved portrait of Tjut Meutia, a national heroine and symbol of resistance against colonial rule. Her portrait is set against an intricate guilloché background combining soft beige, green, and blue tones. The Garuda Pancasila emblem appears prominently near the top, reinforcing the note’s official status. Additional security features visible on this side include latent images, microtext, and layered geometric patterns, with the denomination “1000” repeated in multiple locations for clarity and anti-counterfeiting purposes.

As newer series are introduced and older designs are gradually removed from everyday use, 2016 Heroes Series banknotes are increasingly treated as legacy currency outside Indonesia. These notes are no longer accepted by many banks or travel money bureau services, but they can still be exchanged through specialist currency exchange providers.
