1000 Indonesian Rupiah (Issued 2000)

£0.010000

1 IDR = £0.000010

The 1,000 Indonesian Rupiah banknote issued in 2000 forms part of Bank Indonesia’s early-2000s series, combining national heritage, historical figures, and detailed landscape engraving in a compact denomination. Although now withdrawn from circulation, this note remains widely recognised and is still encountered by travellers, collectors, and households holding older Indonesian currency.

On the front, the banknote features a finely engraved portrait of Kapitan Pattimura (Thomas Matulessy), a national hero of Indonesia known for leading resistance against Dutch colonial rule in the Maluku Islands. He is depicted holding a traditional parang (sword), symbolising courage and resistance. The portrait is set against layered geometric guilloché patterns in soft green, lilac, and beige tones. The denomination “1000” appears prominently in the upper left, with “SERIBU RUPIAH” and “BANK INDONESIA” clearly printed. Microtext, fine line engraving, and a security strip are integrated into the design, alongside official signatures and the Garuda Pancasila emblem.

On the back, the note showcases a tranquil maritime scene from eastern Indonesia, depicting traditional boats on calm waters with mountainous islands in the background, associated with the Maluku region. The engraving emphasises Indonesia’s seafaring heritage and archipelagic geography. The denomination “1000” is repeated, with ornamental wave patterns, detailed line work, and subtle colour gradients providing both aesthetic balance and security features typical of Bank Indonesia issues from this period.
