20000 Indonesian Rupiah (Issued 2004)
£0.200000
1 IDR = £0.000010
The 20,000 Indonesian Rupiah banknote issued in 2004 forms part of Indonesia’s pre-2016 modern banknote series, combining strong national symbolism with everyday economic life. Issued by Bank Indonesia, this note reflects both Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and its post-Asian Financial Crisis identity, and is now a withdrawn series that is no longer in active circulation.
On the front of the banknote, the design is dominated by a finely engraved portrait of Oto Iskandar di Nata, a respected Indonesian national hero and political figure. The portrait is rendered in detailed intaglio style, showing him in formal attire with a calm, authoritative expression. To the right of the portrait, the Garuda Pancasila emblem reinforces national identity, while intricate geometric guilloché patterns fill the background to deter counterfeiting. The denomination “20000” and the wording Dua Puluh Ribu Rupiah are clearly printed, alongside the signatures of Bank Indonesia officials and the year of issue. A security thread, watermark area, and colour-shifting elements are integrated into the layout, consistent with Indonesian security standards of the early 2000s.
The reverse of the banknote presents a scene rooted in Indonesia’s traditional economy and daily life. It depicts figures engaged in agricultural or market-related activity, with woven baskets and produce prominently featured, symbolising rural livelihoods and trade. The composition is framed by flowing line patterns and soft colour gradients typical of the series. The denomination “20000” is repeated in large numerals, with Bank Indonesia and Dua Puluh Ribu Rupiah clearly visible. Fine micro-patterns, layered textures, and background line work add depth while serving an anti-counterfeiting function.
