About Indonesian Rupiah Exchange
The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the official currency of Indonesia, one of Southeast Asia’s most visited destinations. We accept all denominations of Rupiah banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Indonesian Rupiah Banknotes
Bank Indonesia’s most recent banknote series, issued from 2022 onwards, features a range of denominations celebrating Indonesian national heroes and cultural imagery. We accept all notes from this series, including the 100,000 Rupiah note and the 50,000 Rupiah note, as well as every lower denomination in between. The notes incorporate modern security features including colour-shifting ink and watermarks, and are widely used across the country.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy older series of Rupiah banknotes that are no longer in everyday circulation. This includes notes from the 2009–2016 series, such as the 100,000 Rupiah (2009–2016), as well as earlier issues such as the 50,000 Rupiah issued 2005 and other notes going back to the early 2000s. We also accept damaged notes provided they remain at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition.
Indonesian Rupiah Coins
We accept Indonesian Rupiah coins, which circulate in denominations including 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 Rupiah. Because of the additional handling involved, the rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes, but unlike many other exchanges we won’t turn them away. If you’ve come back from Bali or Java with a pocketful of coins alongside your leftover notes from a trip across Southeast Asia — perhaps alongside Malaysian Ringgit or Thai Baht — we can exchange them all.
