The 500-rupiah coin was a higher-value circulating coin of Indonesia in the 1990s, struck in aluminium-bronze with a warm golden colour and a lightly scalloped, softly toothed rim. Larger and more substantial than the lower denominations, it saw wide everyday use before being replaced by lighter modern coins. Its golden tone and floral reverse made it a distinctive piece in circulation.

On the obverse, the coin carries the Garuda Pancasila, the national emblem of Indonesia, with the Garuda eagle bearing the quartered state shield. The date “1992” appears below and “BANK INDONESIA” curves around the lower rim.
