The Irish ten-pence coin was part of the Republic’s decimal coinage, used until Ireland adopted the euro in 2002. Struck in cupro-nickel with a silvery finish and a milled edge, it was a mid-value change coin; the design shown here is the smaller ten-pence introduced in the 1990s. Its reverse continues Ireland’s tradition of animal designs.

On the obverse is the Irish harp, the Brian Boru harp that serves as the emblem of Ireland, with the country name “ÉIRE” to the left and the year to the right.

On the reverse is a leaping salmon, drawn from the animal coinage first introduced in 1928, with the numeral “10”.
