About Isle of Man Pounds Exchange

The Isle of Man Pound (IMP) is the official currency of the Isle of Man, a self-governing Crown dependency in the Irish Sea, issued by the Isle of Man Government and pegged at par with sterling. We accept all denominations of Isle of Man banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Isle of Man Banknotes

Isle of Man banknotes are issued by the Isle of Man Government Treasury and feature distinctive Manx imagery, including the island’s famous triskelion symbol. We accept the full range of denominations in circulation, including notes such as the 10 pound note issued in 2007 and the 20 pound note issued in 2014, as well as every other denomination we receive. Bear in mind that Isle of Man pounds are not legal tender in the UK, so you are unlikely to be able to spend or exchange them at a high street bank once you return home.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy older and withdrawn Isle of Man banknotes, including the 50 pound note issued in 1983 and the 1 pound note issued in 1972, along with all other older series notes we receive. Damaged notes are also accepted provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition. This applies to the full range of older Manx notes, similar to how we handle other Crown dependency currencies such as Guernsey Pounds and Jersey Pounds.

Isle of Man Coins

We also accept Isle of Man coins, including the 50 pence coin first issued in 1997 and the 5 pence coin first issued in 1971, as well as all other Manx coin denominations we receive. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved, but unlike most banks and bureaux de change, we will not turn them away.

Why Exchange With Us?

Isle of Man Pound Exchange FAQ

Are Isle of Man Pounds accepted by UK banks?

No — although Isle of Man Pounds are pegged at par with sterling, they are not legal tender in the United Kingdom and most UK banks will refuse to exchange or deposit them. We buy Isle of Man banknotes and coins directly, so you are not left out of pocket after returning from the island.

Can I exchange old Isle of Man banknotes, such as the 1972 one pound note?

Yes, we do accept older withdrawn Isle of Man notes, including the 1 pound note issued in 1972 and the 50 pound note issued in 1983. The rate for older series notes may be slightly lower than for current issue notes, but we will always make you an offer.

How do I send my Isle of Man Pounds to you?

Simply box up your Isle of Man banknotes and coins and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a tracked service for your own peace of mind. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are unhappy with the offer, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Do Isle of Man Pounds have the same value as British Pounds?

Yes — Isle of Man Pounds are pegged at par with British Pounds, meaning one IMP equals one GBP in face value. However, because they are not accepted as legal tender outside the Isle of Man, you cannot simply spend them in the UK and will need to exchange them.

Do you accept Isle of Man coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! We accept a range of Isle of Man coins, including the 50 pence coin first issued in 1997 and the 10 pence coin first issued in 2000. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes to account for handling costs, but we will not refuse them the way most high street bureaux de change would.
