About Israeli Pounds Exchange
The Israeli Pound (IL£) is a historic currency that was used in Israel from 1948 until 1980, when it was replaced first by the Israeli Old Sheqel and later by the Israeli New Sheqel, which remains in use today. We accept all denominations of Israeli Pound banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Israeli Pound Banknotes
The Israeli Pound was fully withdrawn from circulation in 1980 and is no longer legal tender anywhere in the world, so there are no current series banknotes in issue. Any Israeli Pound banknotes you hold are withdrawn notes, and we are happy to exchange them for British pounds regardless of denomination or condition.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we specialise in exactly this kind of withdrawn currency. Israeli Pound banknotes were issued across a range of denominations during the currency’s three decades of circulation, and we accept all of them. Notes should be at least 50% intact to qualify for exchange; heavily damaged notes may be accepted at a slightly reduced rate. If you also have other historic Middle Eastern currencies to exchange, we handle Jordanian Dinars and a wide range of other withdrawn and exotic currencies.
Israeli Pound Coins
We also accept Israeli Pound coins, including the smaller agorot denominations that were issued alongside the banknotes. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved, but unlike many exchanges and banks, we won’t turn them away.
