The twenty-lire coin was a small coin of the Italian lira, in use until the euro replaced the lira in 2002. Struck in a golden aluminium-bronze alloy with a plain edge, its warm colour set it apart from the paler aluminium coins of lower value. Its designs blend a classical portrait with a natural motif.
On the obverse is the head of a woman, personifying Italy, crowned with a wreath of wheat and facing left, with the legend “REPVBBLICA ITALIANA” (Italian Republic) and the designer’s name.
On the reverse is an oak branch with acorns, with the value “L.20” and the year.
