About Japanese Yen Exchange
The Japanese Yen (JPY) is the official currency of Japan and one of the most widely traded currencies in the world. We accept all denominations of Japanese Yen banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Japanese Yen Banknotes
Japan’s current banknotes are issued by the Bank of Japan and circulate in a range of denominations, including the 10,000 yen note and the 5,000 yen note, alongside smaller values covering everyday use. The notes feature sophisticated security elements including holograms and watermarks, making them straightforward to verify. We accept all current denominations, whatever the mix you bring back from your travels.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we also buy older and withdrawn Japanese Yen banknotes, including the 10,000 yen note issued in 1958 and historic low-denomination notes such as the 1 yen banknote first issued in 1885. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we can make you an offer, though rates for old or damaged notes may be slightly lower than for current issues.
Japanese Yen Coins
We accept a wide range of Japanese Yen coins, including the 500 yen coin and smaller denominations such as the 10 yen coin. Coins tend to attract a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but there is no need to leave them behind after your trip to Japan.
