The one-pound coin is the highest of Jersey’s everyday circulating denominations, issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey and held at par with the British pound. It was struck in a golden nickel-brass alloy that gave it a warm colour and a solid, chunky feel, with a round format and an inscribed, milled edge. Despite its heraldic pairing in some catalogues, the circulating coin is round rather than square.

On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, encircled by the legend “QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND” with the date beneath.

On the reverse, from Jersey’s series honouring the island’s maritime heritage, appears a full-rigged sailing ship built in Jersey, shown under sail on the sea with the vessel’s name and date, “RESOLUTE 1877”, inscribed below. The legend “BAILIWICK OF JERSEY” curves above and “ONE POUND” below within a beaded border.
