1 Jersey Pound (Issued 1998)

The one-pound coin is the top everyday denomination of the Jersey pound, issued by the Bailiwick of Jersey and kept on par with sterling so that it passes as a British pound. Struck in a golden nickel-brass alloy, it has a warm tone and a substantial, weighty feel, with a round shape and a milled, inscribed edge built to survive heavy handling.

On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, framed by the legend “QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND” with the year below.

On the reverse, drawn from Jersey’s series celebrating its shipbuilding tradition, is a Jersey-built sailing ship shown under full sail on the waves, her name and launch date “RESOLUTE 1877” inscribed beneath the hull. “BAILIWICK OF JERSEY” arches above and “ONE POUND” runs below.
