About Jersey Pounds Exchange

The Jersey Pound (JEP) is the official currency of the Bailiwick of Jersey, a British Crown dependency in the Channel Islands, pegged at parity with sterling. We accept all denominations of Jersey Pound banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Jersey Pound Banknotes

Jersey’s current banknotes were issued in 2010 by the States of Jersey and are produced in a range of denominations, including the 50 pound note and the 20 pound note, as well as smaller values. All denominations from the 2010 series are accepted, so if you have any left over from a trip to the island, we can convert them for you.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy withdrawn Jersey Pound banknotes, including older issues such as the 1989 50 pound note and earlier series going back to the 1963 5 pound note. We also accept damaged notes, provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate applied will be slightly lower than for current, undamaged notes. If you have Guernsey Pounds or Isle of Man Pounds tucked away alongside your Jersey currency, we can exchange those too.

Jersey Pound Coins

Jersey issues its own coins in denominations including 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, and £1, which are legal tender on the island but not widely accepted on the British mainland. We accept Jersey Pound coins at a slightly reduced rate to account for handling costs — something most banks and currency exchanges will not offer at all.

Jersey Pound Exchange FAQ

Are Jersey Pounds the same as British Pounds?

No. Jersey Pounds are issued by the States of Jersey and are pegged at parity with sterling, meaning one Jersey Pound equals one British Pound in value. However, they are not legal tender in the UK and most mainland shops and banks will not accept them, which is why exchanging them with us is often the easiest option.

Can I exchange old Jersey Pound banknotes issued before 2010?

Yes, we accept a wide range of withdrawn Jersey Pound banknotes, including issues from 1989, 1993, and earlier series going back to the 1960s. Rates for older withdrawn notes are slightly lower than for current 2010-series notes, but we will always give you a clear offer before proceeding.

Do you accept Jersey Pound coins?

Yes! We accept Jersey Pound coins, which is something most UK banks and bureaux de change won’t do. The exchange rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to handling costs, but there is no need to separate them out — send them along with your notes and we will handle everything.

How do I send my Jersey Pounds to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Jersey Pounds and post them to us yourself — we recommend using a tracked service for your own peace of mind. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are not happy with the offer we make, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Can I exchange Jersey Pound notes that are torn or damaged?

Yes, we do accept damaged Jersey Pound banknotes, provided each note is at least 50% intact. Unlike many high street exchanges, we won’t simply turn damaged notes away — though the rate will be slightly lower to reflect their condition. If you are unsure whether a particular note qualifies, feel free to contact us before sending.
