5 Piastres — Jordan (King Hussein)
This 5 Piastres coin is part of the modern King Hussein series of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, this example carrying the dual date 1414 AH / 1993. Struck in a silver-coloured cupro-nickel, it is a mid-range circulating denomination of the Jordanian dinar, where one hundred piastres (qirsh) make up a dinar. Its bright finish, round module and plain edge are typical of the everyday coinage that passed through markets and shops across the kingdom during the period.
On the obverse, a portrait of King Hussein faces left, depicted bare-headed in civilian dress. Arabic inscriptions run around the border naming the king and the kingdom, contained within a plain raised rim.
On the reverse, an outline map of Jordan is placed over a grid or lattice pattern that spans the field.
