About Kenyan Shilling Exchange
The Kenyan Shilling (KES) is the official currency of Kenya, one of East Africa’s most visited destinations for safari holidays and wildlife tourism. We accept all denominations of Kenyan Shilling banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.
Current Kenyan Shilling Banknotes
The Central Bank of Kenya has issued a modern series of banknotes featuring wildlife and national landmarks, replacing earlier portrait-based designs. We accept the full range of current KES banknotes across all denominations. If you’re returning from Kenya and have leftover shillings, you may also have Tanzanian Shillings or Ugandan Shillings from wider East African travel — we exchange those too.
Old Series & Damaged Notes
Unlike most high street exchanges, we accept older withdrawn Kenyan Shilling banknotes as well as notes that are torn, worn, or otherwise damaged. Provided a note is at least 50% intact, we can make you an offer, though the rate applied will be slightly lower than for current series notes. Most UK banks and bureaux de change will decline old or damaged KES entirely, so we’re often the only practical option for getting value from these notes.
Kenyan Shilling Coins
We also accept Kenyan Shilling coins, including the various shilling and cent denominations in circulation. Coins are exchanged at a lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved, but unlike many services we won’t turn them away. If you have a mixed collection of coins and notes, simply send them together.
