1 Dinar Kuwaiti Dinar (Issued 2014)

Kuwait’s economy, built upon vast petroleum reserves that have made it one of the wealthiest nations per capita in the world, has long relied on a stable and trusted currency to facilitate both domestic commerce and the international oil trade. The Kuwaiti Dinar consistently ranks among the highest-valued currency units globally, underpinning transactions across the energy sector, financial services, and the import of consumer and industrial goods. The 2014 series issued by the Central Bank of Kuwait represents the most current generation of banknotes in circulation, incorporating modern security technology whilst maintaining the visual language of Kuwaiti national identity. This 1 Dinar denomination would have passed through the hands of traders, workers, and institutions engaged in the daily economic life of the State of Kuwait.

On the front, the note is presented in a predominantly teal and aquamarine colour scheme, with warm red and terracotta accents providing strong contrast across the central design. The left-hand side features a detailed architectural vignette depicting the Grand Mosque of Kuwait, rendered with fine line engraving that captures the building’s arched colonnades, minaret, and classical Islamic façade in considerable detail. To the right of this building, a traditional Kuwaiti dhow sailing vessel is prominently illustrated, its red and white sail billowing above stylised green and blue waves that evoke the Arabian Gulf. The national emblem of Kuwait — a golden falcon with outstretched wings bearing a shield and traditional dhow — appears in the upper right portion of the note, printed in clear detail. Above the central imagery, the issuing authority name is printed in Arabic script reading “بنك الكويت المركزي” (Central Bank of Kuwait), accompanied by the denomination “واحد دينار” (One Dinar) in bold Arabic calligraphy in the lower central area. A serial number, reading CF 04 665137, is printed in red alphanumeric characters in the lower centre of the note. A repeating geometric guilloché lattice pattern in pale teal and gold fills the background across much of the face, providing both visual complexity and an anti-counterfeiting function. To the upper right, the signature of the Minister of Finance appears alongside an Arabic designation. The numeral “1” appears on the far right in large format. A colour-shifting security element is visible as a small diamond shape on the sail of the dhow, shifting between red and green when tilted. The left margin carries vertical serial number text in red, mirroring the central serial reference.

The reverse of the note continues the teal and aquamarine palette, with the issuing authority name “CENTRAL BANK OF KUWAIT” printed prominently in English across the upper portion in dark teal lettering, with “KUWAIT” rendered in a larger, bolder typeface. The right half of the reverse features a detailed photographic or finely engraved image of ancient stone column capitals, believed to be archaeological remains from the Failaka Island excavations, presented in rich teal and brown tones that give the stonework considerable three-dimensional depth. The large numeral “1” appears in the upper right corner, and the words “ONE Dinar” are printed in English in the lower right section, with “Dinar” rendered in an italic script typeface. The left half of the reverse is dominated by intricate guilloché rosette patterns in pale gold and teal, incorporating floral and circular motifs. A windowed security thread is visible running vertically through the left-centre of the note. A small colour-shifting diamond security element, matching that seen on the obverse, is also visible on the left side of the reverse, reinforcing the note’s anti-counterfeiting properties. A diagonal watermark area is visible in the left-hand section where the paper thins, revealing the characteristic ghost imagery typical of modern intaglio-printed currency.
