1 Dinar Kuwaiti Dinar (Issued 1968)

A dominant olive-green and soft pink colour palette sweeps across the face of this 1968 Kuwaiti Dinar note, immediately drawing the eye to the bold, centrally positioned State Emblem of Kuwait rendered with silvery underlaid detail — a post-liberation enhancement applied in 1992 that gives the arms a distinctive metallic quality distinguishing this reissue from earlier printings. The emblem, depicting a traditional dhow sailing vessel above stylised waves within a circular cartouche, sits prominently to the right of centre and anchors the entire composition. The combination of finely engraved guilloché patterns and Arabic calligraphy creates a note of considerable visual complexity and official gravitas.

On the front, the design is structured around a rich interplay of layered guilloché backgrounds in olive-green, pale gold, and blush pink, with a large central oval field rendered in deeper rose tones carrying the primary Arabic denomination inscription reading “دينار واحد” — One Dinar. Above this, in ornate Arabic calligraphy, the issuing authority is identified as “بنك الكويت المركزي” — the Central Bank of Kuwait. To the upper right, the silver-underlaid State Emblem of Kuwait is engraved with fine detail, showing the dhow upon waves enclosed in a falcon-winged circular border, with the Arabic inscription “دولة الكويت” — State of Kuwait — visible around the device. The serial number, printed in red and appearing as ح/٣ ٨٠٧٩٣٣, is displayed in both the upper right and lower left corners. The year of issue, 1968, is referenced in Arabic numerals within the central text panel. Along the lower portion of the note, two signature panels are present representing the authorising signatories of the Central Bank, with Arabic titles indicating the Governor and Deputy Governor. A geometric rosette pattern in warm terracotta and cream tones is positioned in the lower centre, adding decorative balance. Vertical ladder-style registration bars appear along the left edge, and the numeral “1” is visible in both corners. The paper shows a fine watermark area to the left of centre, visible as a lighter field within the overall composition.

The reverse is printed predominantly in olive-green and soft pink, with the denomination “One Dinar” appearing in English in the lower right portion of the note in clean, serif typography. The words “Central Bank of Kuwait” are displayed prominently along the upper edge in bold Latin script, flanked by the numeral “1” at each upper corner. The central vignette depicts a detailed engraving of a traditional Kuwaiti mud-brick fortification or historic building, shown from a low perspective with a large palm tree rising to the left of the structure, its fronds spreading upward against a lightly shaded sky. The architecture of the building is rendered with careful crosshatched engraving, showing the textured mud-brick walls, narrow windows, and characteristic flat-roofed construction typical of pre-modern Kuwaiti heritage structures. The lower register of the reverse carries a multi-coloured decorative band featuring an eight-pointed geometric rosette in blue, orange, and green at centre, flanked by stylised floral and wave-form guilloché elements in pink and lavender. A circular globe-like motif in green and pink appears to the right. The numeral “1” is also repeated in the lower left corner in a larger format over a green underprint.
