The 10 santimu was a middle small-change coin of independent Latvia’s Lats currency, circulating from the 1990s until Latvia adopted the euro in 2014. Struck in golden nickel-brass, it has a warm yellow colour, a smooth edge and a firm feel a little heavier than the copper santimi, in a system where one hundred santimu equalled one lats.

On the obverse, the coin bears the small national coat of arms of Latvia — a shield showing a rising sun with a lion and a griffin, and three stars above — within the legend “LATVIJAS REPUBLIKA”, the date “2008” set at the foot between two dots.

On the reverse, a large numeral “10” stands at the centre beneath a spread of fine curved rays, with a small diamond ornament to each side. The word “SANTIMU” is inscribed in an arc along the lower rim, giving the genitive plural of the denomination.
