The 10 centų coin was part of the first series of centas coins issued by newly independent Lithuania in 1991, when the country restored its own coinage after regaining independence. Struck in bronze-plated steel with a warm reddish-copper colour and a plain edge, it was a low-value everyday coin, one hundred centų making up one litas in the currency that followed.

On the obverse appears the Vytis, the national coat of arms of Lithuania: an armoured knight galloping to the left on a horse, brandishing a raised sword and carrying a shield charged with a double cross. The name “LIETUVA” is inscribed below the horse, with the year “1991” beneath it.

On the reverse, the large numeral “10” fills the centre of the field, with the word “CENTŲ” inscribed below it. A border of small stylised chevrons runs around the inner edge, framing the denomination within the raised rim.
