10 Centų Lithuania (Issued 1991)

The ten-centų coin is a small denomination from the first series of the restored Lithuanian litas, dated 1991. It was struck in a bronze-coloured alloy, giving it a warm reddish tone and a light, thin feel, and was among the earliest coins issued after Lithuania broke from the Soviet Union. This first series was short-lived and soon replaced.

On the obverse is the Vytis, the national emblem of Lithuania — a mounted armoured knight charging to the left, sword raised above his head and a double-cross shield on his arm. The country name “LIETUVA” and the date “1991” run beneath the horse.

On the reverse the large numeral “10” fills the field above the words “CENTŲ”, the whole design enclosed by a border of small chevron ornaments.
