The 20 centų coin belongs to the first series of centas coins struck by Lithuania in 1991 following the restoration of independence and the return of the country’s own currency. Made of bronze-plated steel with a warm copper tone and a plain edge, it served as small change in the litas system, in which one hundred centų equalled one litas.

On the obverse appears the Vytis, Lithuania’s historic coat of arms: a mounted knight in armour charging to the left, holding aloft a sword and bearing a shield marked with a double cross. The country name “LIETUVA” is inscribed beneath the horse, with the year “1991” below.

On the reverse, the large numeral “20” dominates the field, with the word “CENTŲ” inscribed underneath. A ring of small stylised chevrons decorates the inner border, enclosing the denomination within the raised rim.
