20 Centu coin Lithuania

20 Centų Lithuania (Issued 1991)

The twenty-centų coin comes from the first series of coins struck for the restored Lithuanian litas, dated 1991. It was made in a bronze-coloured alloy with a warm reddish appearance and a light, slim feel, produced in the early years of renewed independence. These initial issues remained in use only a short time before a later coinage took their place.

On the obverse is the Vytis, Lithuania’s traditional coat of arms — an armoured horseman galloping to the left, raising a sword and bearing a shield charged with a double cross. “LIETUVA” and “1991” appear below the galloping horse.

On the reverse the large numeral “20” stands above the word “CENTŲ”, framed by a decorative border of small chevron marks around the rim.
