Macedonian Denari Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Macedonian Denari for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Macedonian Denari Exchange

The Macedonian Denar (MKD) is the official currency of North Macedonia, a landlocked country in the western Balkans. We accept all denominations of Macedonian Denari banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Macedonian Denari Banknotes

Macedonian Denari banknotes feature distinctive designs celebrating the country’s cultural heritage, natural landscapes, and historical figures. We accept all denominations currently in circulation, including notable notes such as the 100 Denari and the 500 Denari — and everything in between. If you’re returning from the region having also visited neighbouring countries, we can also exchange Serbian Dinara and Albanian Leke.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we don’t turn away older or damaged Macedonian Denari banknotes. We accept withdrawn notes, including the 50 Denari and 10 Denari banknotes first issued in 1996, provided they remain at least 50% intact. The exchange rate for damaged or withdrawn notes may be slightly lower than for current series notes.

Macedonian Denari Coins

We also accept Macedonian Denari coins, which many currency exchanges and UK banks will simply refuse. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but there is no need to leave them sitting in a drawer at home.

Why Exchange With Us?

  • Competitive exchange rates updated daily
  • Accept coins and damaged notes that banks won’t take
  • We verify your currency and pay you within 5 working days
  • No hidden fees or charges

Macedonian Denar Exchange FAQ

Is the Macedonian Denar still in use today?

Yes — the Macedonian Denar (MKD) remains the official currency of North Macedonia and is still actively used. If you have recently returned from the country, your current banknotes are fully exchangeable with us.

Can I exchange Macedonian Denari coins as well as banknotes?

Yes! We accept both Macedonian Denari coins and banknotes, which puts us apart from most high street exchanges. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the extra handling required, but you won’t need to write them off.

Do you accept old Macedonian Denari notes first issued in 1996?

Yes, we do. We accept older Macedonian Denari banknotes, including those first issued in 1996, provided they are at least 50% intact. The rate applied may be slightly lower than for current series notes, but we won’t turn them away as many exchanges would.

How do I send my Macedonian Denari and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Macedonian Denari and post them to us at your own arrangement — many customers returning from North Macedonia find this far more convenient than hunting for a specialist exchange on the high street. Once we receive and verify your currency, we’ll pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you’re not happy with our offer, we’ll return your currency to you free of charge.

Can I exchange Macedonian Denari at a UK bank or post office?

Most UK banks and post offices do not handle Macedonian Denari, as it is not a widely traded currency in the UK. A specialist service like ours is typically your best option for converting leftover Denari back into pounds.
