1 Sen Malaysia (Issued 1987)

The one-sen coin was the lowest denomination of the Malaysian ringgit, a piece of small change from Malaysia’s earlier coinage. It was struck in bronze, giving it a warm reddish tone and a light feel, in a round format with a plain edge. As the smallest value, the one-sen coin was eventually withdrawn from circulation.

On the obverse the numeral “1” is placed at the centre between small floral sprigs, with “MALAYSIA” curving above and “SEN” and the date “1987” below.

On the reverse appears the Malaysian Houses of Parliament, shown as a tall tower alongside a lower block, together with the crescent moon and the fourteen-pointed star that are the national emblems of Malaysia.
