10 Malaysian Ringgit banknote (4th series)

£1.469813

1 MYR = £0.146981

The 10 Malaysian Ringgit banknote from Malaysia’s 4th series is a modern polymer issue produced by Bank Negara Malaysia, combining durable substrate technology with layered security printing. It’s part of the post-paper era where Malaysia moved to long-life polymer notes featuring transparent windows, crisp intaglio-style portrait engraving, and highly structured background geometry designed to deter counterfeiting while presenting a clean “museum grade” aesthetic.

On the front, the note is dominated by a detailed engraved portrait of Tuanku Abdul Rahman (Malaysia’s first Yang di-Pertuan Agong) in ceremonial dress, positioned on the right within a rich orange field. Fine guilloché patterns and micro-line textures radiate across the background, with the denomination “10” repeated in multiple placements, including a bold central numeral. A hibiscus (Bunga Raya) motif sits toward the lower-left of the main design, rendered with soft colour gradation against the patterned base. The left side contains the polymer security window area, including clear/translucent sections and embedded elements typical of this series, plus small registration features and colour effects that shift subtly with viewing angle. “BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA” appears across the top margin, with the Governor’s signature placed below the central denomination.

On the reverse, the design centres on Malaysia’s iconic Rafflesia bloom, shown large and prominent, with petal texture and dotted patterning clearly defined. The floral subject is framed by dense geometric background work and fine repeating line structures that create depth when viewed up close. The denomination “RM 10” appears again within the design, while polymer clear areas and security features remain visible at the edges, including translucent zones and embedded anti-copy detailing that helps distinguish genuine notes from reproductions.
