About Malaysian Ringgit Exchange

The Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) is the official currency of Malaysia, issued by Bank Negara Malaysia and used across the country from bustling Kuala Lumpur to the beaches of Langkawi. We accept all denominations of Malaysian Ringgit banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Malaysian Ringgit Banknotes

The current fourth series of Malaysian Ringgit banknotes features a range of denominations, all incorporating modern security features such as colour-shifting ink, watermarks, and security threads. We accept all denominations from this series, including the 50 Ringgit and 100 Ringgit notes, as well as the smaller denominations. If you’re also returning from elsewhere in Southeast Asia, we also exchange currencies such as Thai Baht, Singapore Dollars, and Indonesian Rupiah.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy older Malaysian Ringgit banknotes from the third, second, and first series, including high-value notes such as the 1,000 Ringgit (2nd series) and the 100 Ringgit (3rd series). We also accept damaged notes, provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower to reflect their condition.

Malaysian Ringgit Coins

We accept a range of Malaysian Ringgit coins, including the 50 Sen (third series) and various editions of the 10 Sen, as well as other sen denominations across multiple series. Because coins require additional handling, the exchange rate is slightly lower than for banknotes, but unlike most banks, we won’t turn them away.

Why Exchange With Us?

Malaysian Ringgit Exchange FAQ

Do you accept old Malaysian Ringgit notes that are no longer in circulation?

Yes, we do. We exchange notes from the first, second, third, and fourth series, so even if your Ringgit predate the current fourth series design, they are still exchangeable with us. Older withdrawn notes may attract a slightly lower rate, but we will always make you an offer.

I have a 1,000 Ringgit note — can I exchange it?

Yes! The 1,000 Ringgit note was issued as part of earlier series and has since been withdrawn from circulation, but we still accept it. Simply post your notes to us, and once we have verified them you will be paid within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal.

How do I send my Malaysian Ringgit and how long does the process take?

Just box up your Ringgit and post them to us at your convenience — many customers do this after returning from a trip to Malaysia or the wider region. Once we receive and verify your currency, we aim to pay you within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If you are not happy with the rate we offer, we will return your currency free of charge.

Do you accept Malaysian sen coins as well as banknotes?

Yes, we accept a range of Malaysian sen coins across multiple series, including 10 Sen, 20 Sen, and 50 Sen pieces. The rate for coins is slightly lower than for banknotes due to the additional handling involved, but we will still buy them when most banks and bureaux de change will not.

Can I exchange a damaged Malaysian Ringgit banknote?

Yes, in most cases. We accept damaged Malaysian Ringgit banknotes provided they are at least 50% intact, which is more flexible than the policy at most high street currency exchanges. The rate offered may be marginally lower for damaged notes, but you will still receive a fair value. If you are unsure whether your note qualifies, feel free to contact us before sending.
