50 Centavos coin Mexico

50 Centavos Mexico (Issued 1992)

The 50 centavos was a fractional coin of the Mexican peso from the series introduced with the 1993 currency reform. Struck in an aluminium-bronze alloy with a warm golden colour, it has a distinctive twelve-sided, scalloped outline that makes it easy to recognise by touch. The coin has a plain edge and remains part of the circulating peso coinage.

On the obverse, the coin carries the national coat of arms of Mexico — a golden eagle perched on a prickly-pear cactus, devouring a serpent — encircled by the legend “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS” with a wreath of laurel and oak below.

On the reverse, a large numeral “50” with the letter c for centavos fills the field, with the year of minting above and the mint mark below, all within a raised rim following the scalloped edge.
