The 5 dirham is a higher-value circulation coin of Morocco. It is bimetallic, with a pale centre set in a golden-coloured outer ring, giving it a solid, substantial feel. The design shown dates from the 2002 series struck under King Mohammed VI, and the coin has a segmented edge.
On the obverse appears the portrait of King Mohammed VI facing left, bare-headed, with Arabic inscriptions naming the king around the rim.
On the reverse appears the Moroccan coat of arms — a crowned shield bearing the Atlas mountains, a rising sun and a green pentagram, supported by two lions, above the denomination “5” and its Arabic value, with Arabic inscriptions and the date around the rim, framed by a raised rim.
