The 5 Rupees is a withdrawn circulation coin of Nepal struck in 1996. It is made of brass, giving it a solid golden-toned appearance, and is a substantial piece weighing around 8 grams with a diameter of 25 mm. Its round shape and higher weight reflected its position as one of the larger everyday denominations of its time. It circulated as ordinary currency before being withdrawn from use.
The obverse shows a trident within a central circle. Nepali characters are arranged around the design, with the date placed below.
The reverse depicts the Pashupatinath temple in Kathmandu, one of the country’s important religious landmarks.
