About Nepalese Rupee Exchange

The Nepalese Rupee (NPR) is the official currency of Nepal, issued by Nepal Rastra Bank and used throughout the country from Kathmandu to the Himalayan trekking regions. We accept all denominations of Nepalese Rupee banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes.

Current Nepalese Rupee Banknotes

Nepal Rastra Bank issues a range of Nepalese Rupee banknotes featuring national symbols, wildlife, and landmarks such as Mount Everest. We accept all current denominations in circulation, and unlike most high street exchanges, we welcome notes of all values — there is no need to worry about holding smaller denominations alongside larger ones. If you have been trekking in Nepal and returned with a mix of notes, we will exchange the lot. Nepal is a popular destination for UK travellers, and leftover rupees are something many people find difficult to exchange at home — we are here to help. Travellers returning from the wider South Asian region may also have currencies such as Indian Rupees or Sri Lankan Rupees to exchange alongside their NPR.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we also accept withdrawn Nepalese Rupee banknotes and notes that have seen better days. As long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer — though the rate applied to old or damaged notes is slightly lower than for current series. Nepal has issued several series of banknotes over the decades, and older notes can be genuinely difficult to exchange elsewhere, so do send them in alongside your current notes.

Nepalese Rupee Coins

We accept Nepalese Rupee coins, including paisa subdivisions and rupee coins of various denominations. Coins are accepted at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to the additional handling costs involved — something most banks and bureau de change will not offer at all. If you have a mix of coins and notes left over from your trip, simply send them together.

Why Exchange With Us?

Nepalese Rupee Exchange FAQ

Can I exchange Nepalese Rupees in the UK?

Yes — while Nepalese Rupees are widely used in Nepal, they are considered an exotic currency in the UK and most high street banks and post offices will not accept them. We specialise in exactly this kind of currency, so exchanging your leftover NPR is straightforward with us.

Do you accept old or withdrawn Nepalese Rupee banknotes?

Yes, we do. Nepal Rastra Bank has issued several series of banknotes over the years, and we accept older withdrawn notes alongside current ones. The rate for withdrawn notes is slightly lower, but as long as a note is at least 50% intact, we will make you an offer.

I have Nepalese Rupee coins as well as banknotes — can I send both?

Yes! We accept both Nepalese Rupee coins and banknotes. Coins are exchanged at a slightly lower rate than banknotes due to handling costs, but you are welcome to include them in the same parcel as your notes.

How do I send my Nepalese Rupees and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your rupees and post them to us at your own cost using a method of your choice. Once we receive and verify your currency, we will pay you within 5 working days by bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you are not happy with our offer, we will return your currency to you free of charge.

Is there a minimum amount of Nepalese Rupees I need to send?

We do not publish a specific minimum for Nepalese Rupees, so if you are unsure whether your amount is worth sending, feel free to contact us before you post. We are always happy to give guidance, particularly for smaller amounts or mixed collections of notes and coins.
