The ½ Dollar, or 50 Cents, is a small circulation coin struck between 1981 and 2004 and has since been withdrawn. It is made of bronze, an alloy of 97% copper, 2.5% zinc and 0.5% tin, giving it a warm reddish-brown colour. The coin is round, weighs 3 g and measures just 18 mm in diameter, making it the smallest denomination in the series. It served as minor change across Taiwan before being removed from circulation.

The obverse features a plum blossom (Prunus mume), the national flower, with the date shown above.
