The 2 naira was introduced in 2007 as the highest coin value in a new Nigerian series. It is bimetallic, with a golden centre set in a copper-coloured ring, giving it a solid, substantial feel. The coin has a reeded edge and belongs to the current Nigerian coinage.
On the obverse appears the coat of arms of Nigeria — a black shield with a wavy silver Y, supported by two white horses and crested by an eagle — with the legend “FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA”, the year and the initials of the Central Bank of Nigeria, within a raised rim.
On the reverse appears the National Assembly building in Abuja, with the inscription “TWO NAIRA”, “NATIONAL ASSEMBLY” and the numeral “2”.
