50 Ore Norway (Issued 1978)
The 50 øre was a small fractional coin of the Norwegian krone, one hundred øre making a krone. Struck in cupro-nickel with a silvery finish, it was a light everyday coin. The øre coins were later phased out and the 50 øre ceased to be legal tender in 2012, making it an out-of-circulation coin. It has a plain edge.
On the obverse appears the royal coat of arms of Norway — a crowned shield bearing the lion of Norway holding the axe of St Olav — with the year of minting divided to either side.
On the reverse, the large numeral “50” sits above the words “ØRE” and “NORGE”, flanked by the mint initials, with a small ornamental motif below, all within a raised rim.
