5 Baisa — National Arms (Issued 1418-1434 / 1998-2013)
The 5 Baisa is a circulation coin of Oman, struck between 1418 and 1434 in the Hijri calendar, corresponding to 1998 to 2013. It is made of copper-clad steel, giving the coin a warm, coppery surface over a durable steel core. The coin is round, weighs 2.65 g and measures 19 mm in diameter, making it a small, light piece used as everyday minor change in the Sultanate.
The obverse carries the national arms of Oman. The Arabic legend reads “قابوس بن سعيد سلطان عمان”, which translates as “Qaboos bin Sa’id Sultan of Oman”, naming the ruling Sultan.
The reverse shows the value flanked by small arms, with the date set below in both the Gregorian and Hijri calendar years. The Arabic lettering reads “بيسة ٥ ١٤٢٠- ١٩٩٩”, giving the value as 5 Baisa together with the years 1999 and 1420.
