1.000.000 Złotych (Issued 1993, Narodowy Bank Polski)

Narodowy Bank Polski, established as the central banking authority of Poland, issued this one million złotych banknote during a transformative period in the nation’s monetary history. The 1993 emission represented the bank’s continued responsibility for Poland’s currency circulation during the post-communist transition era. This denomination reflected the economic conditions of the early 1990s, when high-value notes became necessary for everyday transactions. The note remains an important artefact of Poland’s financial evolution following the collapse of the People’s Republic of Poland regime.

On the front, the banknote features a portrait of a bearded gentleman wearing spectacles and formal attire, positioned prominently on the right side of the composition. The portrait is rendered in fine engraving technique using rich brown and purple tones that dominate the note’s colour palette. The text “RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA” appears across the top in serif capitals, with the denomination “1000000” displayed in large numerals on the left side in red outline lettering. Below this sits the text “MILION ZŁOTYCH” indicating one million złoty. The centre of the note contains a circular security feature with radiating lines, flanked by the issuing bank’s eagle emblem and other heraldic elements. The serial number “K 7133551” appears in the upper left corner, repeated in the lower left. The date “WARSZAWA, 16 LISTOPADA 1993 r.” is printed centrally, indicating the Warsaw issue date of 16 November 1993. Ornamental guilloché patterns and geometric designs create the security background throughout.

The reverse displays “NARODOWY BANK POLSKI” in prominent serif lettering across the top, with the denomination “1000000” in large numerals appearing on both the left and right margins. The predominant design element is an elaborate engraving of an ancient, gnarled tree with extensive root systems and spreading branches, rendered entirely in the same brown tone as the obverse. This naturalistic botanical illustration occupies the left two-thirds of the note’s surface. Text reading “BANKNOT O NOMINALE JEDNEGO MILIONA ZŁOTYCH NARODOWY BANK POLSKI” appears in small serif capitals in the centre-right area, explaining the note’s denomination and issuing institution. A signature appears in cursive script on the lower right. Additional security elements and fine line patterns form a subtle background texture throughout the reverse design.
