This two-zlote coin dates from the era of the Polish People’s Republic, before the 1995 currency reform. Struck in a brass alloy with a golden colour, it circulated as an everyday coin in communist-era Poland. Following redenomination the old zloty was withdrawn, making pieces like this obsolete Polish currency.

On the obverse, the eagle of the Polish People’s Republic is shown without a crown, wings spread, encircled by the legend ‘POLSKA RZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA’ with the year 1988 below.

On the reverse, the denomination ‘2 ZŁOTE’ is set out prominently at the centre, framed by the raised rim.
