The 1 ban is the smallest coin of the modern Romanian Leu, introduced with the 2005 revaluation that created the new leu and its subdivisions of bani. Struck in brass-plated steel, it has a warm golden colour and a light, thin feel, and is magnetic owing to its steel core.
