Scottish Pounds Banknotes & Coins We Accept

To exchange your Scottish Pounds for cash, select the coins or banknotes you want to add to your account below.

About Scottish Pounds Exchange

The Scottish Pound (GBP) refers to the banknotes issued by Scotland’s three note-issuing banks — the Bank of Scotland, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and Clydesdale Bank — all denominated in pounds sterling and legal currency across the UK. We accept all denominations of Scottish banknotes and coins, including older series and damaged notes, regardless of which bank issued them.

Current Scottish Banknotes

Scotland’s three authorised banks each issue their own distinctive banknotes, from everyday five and ten pound notes up to the Clydesdale Bank £100 and the Royal Bank of Scotland £100. All current notes feature modern security elements including holograms, watermarks, and microprinting, and we accept every denomination across all three issuing banks.

Old Series & Damaged Notes

Unlike most high street exchanges, we buy withdrawn Scottish banknotes going back many decades, including older Royal Bank of Scotland issues such as the 1952 £5 and the 1967 £1, as well as vintage Bank of Scotland notes. We also accept damaged notes provided they are at least 50% intact, though the rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition.

Scottish Pounds Coins

Scottish coins — including the distinctively designed commemorative and circulating coins minted for Scotland — are accepted alongside banknotes. Rates for coins are slightly lower than for notes due to the additional handling costs involved, but we won’t turn them away as many exchanges do.

Scottish Pound Exchange FAQ

Are Scottish banknotes actually legal currency across the UK?

Yes. Scottish banknotes issued by the Bank of Scotland, Royal Bank of Scotland, and Clydesdale Bank are denominated in pounds sterling and are fully valid currency. While businesses outside Scotland are not legally obliged to accept them, they hold the same face value as any other pound sterling note, and we exchange them at the standard rate.

I have an old Scottish £1 note — can I still exchange it?

Yes! We accept withdrawn Scottish one pound notes, including older Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Scotland issues that have long since been taken out of circulation. Send your notes to us and we will assess them and make you an offer — if you’re not happy with it, we’ll return everything to you free of charge.

Do you accept Scottish banknotes from all three issuing banks?

Yes, we accept notes from all three Scottish note-issuing banks: the Bank of Scotland, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and Clydesdale Bank. This covers both current and older withdrawn series from each institution, so there’s no need to worry about which bank your notes came from.

How do I send my Scottish banknotes to you and when will I be paid?

Simply box up your Scottish notes and post them to us — you arrange the postage yourself. Once we receive them, we’ll verify the notes and make payment within 5 working days via bank transfer or PayPal. If for any reason you’re unhappy with the offer, we’ll return your notes to you at no cost.

Can I exchange a damaged or torn Scottish banknote?

Yes, we do accept damaged Scottish banknotes, including torn or heavily worn notes, as long as they are at least 50% intact. The rate offered may be slightly lower than for notes in good condition, but unlike many high street exchanges we won’t simply turn them away. If you’re unsure whether your note qualifies, feel free to contact us before sending.
