2 Slovak Koruny (Issued 2002)

The 2 koruny coin was a mid-value circulating piece of the Slovak Koruna, the national currency used between independence in 1993 and the adoption of the euro in 2009. Struck in nickel-plated steel with a bright silvery colour, it had a firm, cool feel and a plain edge. Its clear two-sided design made it a familiar part of everyday change during the koruna era.

On the obverse, the coin carries the Slovak coat of arms — a double cross set on three hills within a shield — above the legend “SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA”. The year “2002” appears below, with the small mint mark and privy marks at the foot, framed by a raised rim.

On the reverse appears a prehistoric female figurine, a Venus statuette from the region’s early archaeology, standing in relief beside the large denomination “2 Sk”. The stylised, ancient form gives the coin a distinctive cultural character.
