50 Halierov (Slovakia, Issued 1993)

The 50 halierov was a small subdivision of the Slovak Koruna, worth half a koruna, issued from the first year of Slovak independence. Struck in lightweight aluminium with a pale matte-silver appearance, it had a very light feel and a plain edge, suited to small everyday change during the koruna period before the euro was adopted in 2009.

On the obverse, the coin carries the Slovak coat of arms — a double cross on three hills within a shield — above the legend “SLOVENSKÁ REPUBLIKA”, with the year “1993” and small privy marks at the foot inside a raised rim.

On the reverse, a slender Gothic tower rises from a rocky outcrop above stylised water, set beside the denomination “50 h”. The architectural motif gives the small coin a distinctive character drawn from Slovakia’s medieval heritage.
