1.000 Tolarjev Tolar (Issued 2003)

The 1.000 Tolarjev banknote issued in 2003 represents Slovenia’s final commemorative currency release before the country’s transition to the Euro in 2004. This denomination formed part of the EU Entry Commemorative series, marking a pivotal moment in Slovenian monetary history. The 1.000 Tolarjev note stands as the highest denomination within this particular issue, distinguished by its sophisticated colour palette and historical portraiture that reflected the nation’s cultural heritage during this transitional period.

On the front, the banknote features a portrait of Prešeren, engraved in black and grey tones occupying the right side of the note. The composition is dominated by warm colour blocking in yellows and greens on the left, creating geometric guilloche patterns that fade into the portrait area. The denomination “1000” appears in the upper left corner in red circles, whilst “1000” is displayed prominently in large numerals on the lower left in blue-grey tones. The text “BANKA SLOVENIJE” runs vertically in red on the far left, and “Tisočtolarjev” appears in green and blue bands across the middle section. A security strip is visible, and the numeral “1000” repeats in the upper right corner in white against a dark blue background. The signature line reads “Prešeren” at the top of the note, with various guilloché patterns creating depth throughout the design.

The reverse presents an intricate composition featuring handwritten script and architectural documentation. A portrait in profile appears on the left side rendered in fine line engraving, whilst the central area displays what appears to be historical handwritten text and architectural drawings. The colour scheme transitions from coral and red tones on the left through cream and pale pink in the central section. “Prešeren” appears in cursive script at the top left. The serial number “BB5402210” is printed in dark blue on the lower left of the note. Geometric guilloche patterns and a security spiral element are visible throughout, with “1000” repeated in the upper right corner and “BANKA SLOVENIJE” appearing vertically on the right edge in red. The reverse incorporates extensive engraved detailing that creates a watermarked effect across the entire surface.
