The one-tolar coin was a base denomination of the Slovenian tolar, the currency of Slovenia from 1991 until the country adopted the euro in 2007. Struck in a brass or bronze-toned alloy with a golden colour and a plain edge, it is a small everyday coin now withdrawn from circulation.
On the obverse, a large numeral 1 fills the centre, encircled by the legend ‘REPUBLIKA SLOVENIJA’ and the value in words ‘EN TOLAR’, with the year 2001.
On the reverse, a brown trout swims across the field with two smaller fish below, and the Latin species name ‘SALMO TRUTTA FARIO’ along the lower rim, part of the tolar coinage’s wildlife theme.
