This large-type 2 Cents is a circulation coin of the South African Rand and has since been withdrawn. Struck between 1970 and 1990, it was made from bronze (95% copper, 4.5% zinc and 0.5% tin), giving it a rich copper colour. The round coin weighs 4.0 g and measures 22.45 mm across. It served as a low-value denomination in general circulation.

The obverse shows the South African coat of arms with the Latin motto “Ex Unitate Vires”, meaning “Power Through Unity”, surrounded by a bilingual English and Afrikaans legend.

The reverse depicts a wildebeest bucking to the left, shown above the denomination.
