This 5 Cents is a circulation coin of the South African Rand and has since been withdrawn. Struck between 1996 and 2000, it was made from copper-plated steel, giving it a copper tone over a steel core. The round coin weighs 4.5 g and measures 21.0 mm across. It circulated as a minor denomination during its years of issue.

The obverse shows the South African coat of arms with the Latin motto “Ex Unitate Vires”, and the country name in Tsonga.
