The 10 won is a small denomination of the South Korean won and a familiar part of the country’s decimal coinage. This 1999 example is of the older brass type, larger and heavier than the coin that replaced it, with a warm golden-bronze colour and a plain edge. It served as everyday change until a reduced-size 10 won was brought in from 2006.

On the obverse, the coin depicts the Dabotap pagoda at Bulguksa Temple in Gyeongju, a finely carved granite structure and a national treasure of Korea. The value “10” and the issuing authority appear in Korean around the design.

On the reverse, the denomination is shown as a large numeral 10 with the word “WON”, the year of minting and the name of the Bank of Korea in Korean script.
