This 10 Won is an earlier type of the South Korean won’s 10 Won coin, struck between 1970 and 1982. It is made from brass, an alloy of 65% copper and 35% zinc, giving it a golden tone. The coin is round, weighs 4.06 grams and measures 22.86 mm across, a small low-denomination piece used in everyday cash transactions. It has since been withdrawn from circulation.

The obverse features the Dabotap Pagoda in Gyeongju, one of the national treasures of South Korea, shown together with the value and “Bank of Korea” in Hangul. The lettering reads “십 원 한국은행”, meaning “Ten Won Bank of Korea”. The design was cut by the engraver Kang Bak.

The reverse shows the value to the right of the issuer and above the date. The lettering reads “10 THE BANK OF KOREA 1970”, giving the face value, the issuing authority and the year, and this side was also engraved by Kang Bak.
