The 5 won is a small denomination of the South Korean won, first issued in 1966 within the country’s decimal coinage. Struck in a brass alloy, it has a warm golden colour, a light weight and a plain edge. On the reverse, the denomination appears as a large numeral 5 with the word “WON”, accompanied by the year of minting and the name of the Bank of Korea in Korean script.
