The 5 Won is a current low-denomination coin of the South Korean won, issued from 1983. It is struck in brass, an alloy of 65% copper and 35% zinc, giving it a golden colour. The coin is round, weighs 2.95 grams and measures 20.4 mm across, making it one of the smaller-value pieces in the series. Although still officially in issue, it is rarely seen in everyday circulation.

The obverse depicts the Geobukseon, or Turtle Ship, a Korean battleship used from the 15th to the 19th century. The lettering reads “오 원”, meaning “Five Won”.

The reverse carries the value together with the issuer name. The lettering reads “2002 5 한국은행”, giving the year, the face value and the Bank of Korea as issuer.
