The 500 Won is a current circulation coin of the South Korean won, first issued in 1982 and still in use today. It is struck in copper-nickel, an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel, which gives it a durable silvery appearance. The obverse shows a flying Manchurian crane, with the value below in Korean. The lettering reads “오백원”, meaning “Five hundred won”. The design was created by Oh Dong-hwan.
